135th World Post Day today
DFCC Vardhana Bank main sponsors of national event
Colombo, Wednesday, October 07, 2009: World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9th October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern.
This year, in Sri Lanka, the 135th World Post Day, organized by the Department of Posts is sponsored by DFCC Vardhana Bank. The event, organized under the purview of the Universal Postal Union comes under the United National Organization (UNO). The event will be graced by Hon. Professor G.L. Pieris along with other prominent government officials, dignitaries of the Department of Posts and postmasters.
DFCC Vardhana Bank, in a bid to ensure that customers have better access to the bank’s Commercial and Personal Financial Services signed an MoU with Sri Lanka Post last year and currently have 21 postal banking units in the Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Puttalam, N’ Eliya & Kandy districts. With plans to further expand its postal unit network throughout the country.
Sri Lanka Post, which has been in existence for more than 209 years, employs approximately 17,000 persons. It is one of the oldest government departments in Sri Lanka and has over 4,500 outlets islandwide.
